Reversing Chronic Pain and Inflammation in Autoimmunity
A Naturopathic Approach to Reversing Inflammation & Autoimmunity:
I wanted to share a great success I’ve had in clinic lately. It will act as motivation for all of you out there who are struggling with chronic pain and inflammation as there is so much you can do to live healthier and pain-free!
In just a few short month’s I’ve help a female client in her 50’s (Cindy – not her real name) not only avoid immunosuppressant medication for her autoimmune condition, but reduce her need for anti-inflammatory pharmaceutical medication and feel 100% better. Her chronic pain and inflammation is minimising daily. It is a fantastic result and is a testament to her hard work and dedication to improving her health.
Suffering from a connective tissue autoimmune condition, my client experiences joint stiffness, pain and has trouble loosing weight. It is a diagnosis that many suggest will be a lifelong struggle with health. We’ve been working together for a while to help address these issues.
However, when Cindy’s immunologist said she had 3 months to get her inflammation markers (CRP & ESR) down before she’s would medicate more serious drugs it kicked my client into gear to see how much she could change before her next appointment.
I put Cindy on a strict dairy-free, gluten-free diet, I increased her water and vegetable intake and reduce her red meat to just a few times a week. I also prescribed practitioner-only herbal and nutrient anti-inflammatory supplements.
The results were mind blowing:
Her dependence on non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs reduced from every day to less than once a week.
Her ESR inflammation marker drop from 57 to 1! Which is healthier than the most healthiest I’ve come across in clinic!
Cindy’s mobility and movement increased so she could exercise every day.
Her weight began to shift, which gave her move confidence in herself and the ability to keep motivated.
Her specialist was blown away and couldn’t justify any pharmaceutical medication.
This is proof that with some dedication, hard work and encouragement you can live pain free. Reducing chronic pain and inflammation is possible.

My food philosophy is based around the idea that we should “eat with joy”, celebrate food diversity and not be fearful of food choices. However, this does mean recognising that some food is harmful to certain individuals or health conditions and should be avoided and minimised.
I don’t prescribe a gluten-free diet for all my clients, but know that in cases where there is chronic inflammatory processes at work in the body it is an extremely beneficial way of eating.
I am a Whole Food Naturopath and believe that are bodies can be robust enough to eat and digest a large variety of food.
